Overview
Dental sealants are a simple and secure way to guard against tooth decay and cavities beyond normal care, like flossing at home. They are a slim, pliable plastic material that is applied to the tops of the back teeth (premolars and molars). After they are positioned, dental sealants block out tartar, plaque, bacteria, and food particles to prevent many dental problems, like cavities. Sealants can last years if they are cared for properly with an effective home oral hygiene routine. Not only can sealants improve your family's oral hygiene and prevent cavities, but they can also save you money at future dental visits at Dental Health. Talk to our board-certified Dental Health team during your family's dental appointments in our Brattleboro, VT office to decide if sealants are right for you or your children.
Best Candidates for Dental Sealants
Ideal candidates for dental sealants would be anyone who is prone to getting tooth decay or cavities. Most often, sealants are recommended for young children and teenagers who may have a more difficult time maintaining regular teeth brushing habits. Sealant application is a fast, simple treatment that typically requires no anesthesia or sedation, which makes it an easy procedure for patients of any age.
What to Expect
During a dental consultation, the Dental Health team will first need to assess the teeth to determine if sealants are the recommended treatment. Prior to the actual application, the teeth will be cleaned to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar. Then we will apply the sealant with a small brush and set it with a special light. After the application, our team will ensure that the sealant has settled correctly.
Dental Health Reviews
Excellent dentist. Compassionate and caring. Everything explained well and she's highly skilled.
Best dental office ever! I used to have dental anxiety but no more. They are very gentle.
Amazing staff and dentist. Very clean, and professional but also very welcoming.
Dr Ellison's office is the happiest and friendlyest dental practice I've ever had in my 81 years. I've had all sorts of dental work done at her practice, implants, crowns, extractions and general exams and cleaning. The med techs that assist in all procedures are well educated and trained well. At 81, I wasn't sure about having another implant so I asked Dr Ellison and we had a 20 minute chat to help me with my decision. She went over X-rays and we discussed pros and cons and with her help decided to have an extraction instead of a transplant since it was a tooth in the background and would not be seen when smiling and would not interfere with chewing. At 81 I thought this was a smart choice. Dr Ellison is so pleasant, friendly and professional all at the same time. Same with her entire staff right up to the front desk who are also very helpful in answering questions. I can recommend this dental office wholeheartedly without hesitation.
Very pleased

Follow-Up
Following the procedure, you or your child should be able to return to a normal routine. It is important to follow a regular oral hygiene routine, including brushing twice a day, using mouthwash, and flossing. You or your child should also avoid putting pressure on your teeth or eating sticky foods. With proper care, sealants can be long-lasting. During your family's annual exams, the Dental Health team will determine if the sealants need to be re-applied.
Insurance Coverage
Sealants are a preventive procedure and most insurance companies cover some or all of the cost for younger patients. Coverage will vary, especially in older patients, so our office will determine your family's exact coverage by contacting your insurance and then calculating your out-of-pocket costs. Dental Health accepts many different payment methods and we can help you with medical financing if needed.
